this is strange that the tv reporter failed to disclose the name of factory. What is so secret about it? Having said that, just putting the name of the factory owner on ECL or filing a case against him in the court or putting him behind the bar does not absolve the city/provincial/federal government administrations of their responsibilities. There may be host of laws for industrial safety in our books of laws – the crux of the matter is their proper implementation and enforcement throughout the city/province/country.
Equally important is to revisit the working conditions of factory workers who in the words of the reporter are made to work like slaves. I heard Islam yes the very religion we are proud of and never get tired of talking about its virtues, abolished slavery some 1450 years ago. We are also signatory to so many UN resolutions and are bound to follow the established practices for safety and security of industrial workers. What are we doing? Do we have some time to do some concrete work? or just while away in politics pulling the legs of our rivals.
The problem is more deep rooted than it appears. We need a fair system of wages, industrial safety and economic justice to ensure that we continue to survive as an honorable nation.
My thoughts and prayers are with those who fell victim to this economic injustice and mismanagement of local/provincial/federal authorities, all those who matter today will be accountable (one day), no matter what excuses they offer today.
